Ex pop star Michel Martelly has been swanned in as the new president of Haiti, taking on the broken Caribbean nation that’s scrambling to recover from last year’s ravaging earthquake.
Martelly took the oath of office Saturday on the grounds of the tumbled presidential palace in the capital, Port-Au-Prince. A power failure steeped the ceremony into darkness, but it was the first democratic transfer of power from one party to different in the country’s troubled history.
